Lothian team scores in SSRA's Inter-Region Matches.

In the SSRA's Inter-Region matches at the Denwood range in Aberdeen on 19th April 2009, Lothian once again secured the Bob Normand Memorial trophy for winning the outdoor competition, having lent it to Grampian last year.  We won the indoor competition twelve months ago, but had to settle for second this time, but only after a tie with Forth & Clyde.  This was settled on countback on the final cards, where Lothian lost by 3 points.  A bit disappointing to miss out on the double in that way, especially as the team total was higher than last year.

The indoor competition is 40 shots at 25 yards, and the outdoor is a double Dewar (40 shots at 50m, 40 shots at 100yards).  Teams of 6, best 5 scores to count.

Indoor
match - 2nd after a tie.
Ian Thomson (Watsonians) 392
Andrew Ross (Balerno & Currie) 388
Bill Hamilton (Watsonians) 384
Gordon Cox (Aberdeen Univ) (382)
Ollie Barron (Aberdeen Univ) 394
Ian McDougall (George Watson's) 396
Total (best 5) 1954

Winners were Forth & Clyde with 1954, then Highland with 1927 and finally Grampian with 1921.  There is no trophy for this.

Outdoor match - 1st
Ian Thomson (Watsonians) 773
Andrew Ross (Balerno & Currie) 768
Bill Hamilton (Watsonians) 770
Gordon Cox (Aberdeen University) 771
Oliver Barron (Aberdeen University) 768
Ian McDougall (George Watson's) (767)
Total (best 5) 3850

Second were Forth & Clyde with 3845, followed by Grampian with 3809 and Highland with 3796.  I think our consistency won this for us - only six points separate top from bottom scores, and Ian McDougall was unlucky to have been the one to be counted out.

The team captain would like to thank everyone who turned out for this competition.  Once again, the eventual team contained only one member from the original selection after many reserves had not accepted an invitation to shoot.  Eventually this rather makeshift team was put together.  Readers will note that two are from Aberdeen University - students have a dual representational qualification meaning they could represent either the region of their university or their home town.  Ian Thomson works in England but maintains a residence in Lothian so is eligible that way. That means that only three of the team actually live full-time in Lothian and the the captain is despairing of the difficulty of selecting a team with more local shooters.
