Click on a "Yes" link to email the webmaster, who will pass your enquiry on to the relevant club. Note that the webmaster cannot give information on particular clubs beyond what is given below. If your enquiry concerns airgun shooting only (air rifle and/or pistol), please see the note below. Cartridge pistol shooting is generally banned in this country.
PLEASE NOTE:
CLICKING ON A 'YES' LINK BELOW WILL CREATE AN EMAIL ADDRESSED TO THE
WEBMASTER, NOT TO THE CLUB. YOU SHOULD INSERT SOME PERSONAL
DETAILS (e.g. name, contact details, any previous experience) BEFORE
SENDING IT. PLEASE DO NOT ASK THE WEBMASTER FOR DETAILED INFORMATION ABOUT YOUR CHOSEN CLUB.
ALL THIS SERVICE IS DESIGNED TO DO IS TO HELP YOU MAKE INITIAL CONTACT
WITH A CLUB AND WHEN THAT HAPPENS IN DUE COURSE YOU CAN ASK THEM ALL THE QUESTIONS YOU
WANT AT THAT STAGE. THE WEBMASTER HAS NO INSIDE INFORMATION ABOUT
SUBSCRIPTIONS, OPENING TIMES OR ANY OTHER SUCH DETAILS ABOUT ANY OF THESE
CLUBS. ALL HE DOES IS TO PASS ON YOUR DECLARATION OF INTEREST.
There are other active clubs in the area which are not affiliated to the Association. These are mainly attached to educational establishments, for example George Heriot's School and possibly Fettes and Loretto Colleges. There may be others. Enquiries at the relevant Sports Union or school office will yield further information but membership is unlikely to be open to the general public. Some
clubs are only active in the "winter" season (September to March/April)
and do not operate during the "summer" months or do so only on a reduced
basis, so induction and coaching of new members may or may not be
available in that period. Enquiry with the club will provide
details of their seasonal activities. NOTE: If your interest is purely to learn or engage in airgun shooting OTHER THAN of the indoor target shooting variety which is run strictly to the rules of the UK and/or International governing bodies at 10 metres only using .177 calibre rifles and pistols, at prescribed targets and is a precision sport as conducted at the Olympics, then it is suggested that you consider contacting the Scottish Air Rifle and Pistol Association (SARPA) instead to find a local club. Most of the clubs above do not have facilities for any airgun shooting at all, and enquiries to them will probably result in disappointment. Balerno & Currie is the only club in this area with the specialised equipment for precision target indoor air rifle and pistol shooting. What is known as Field Target shooting might be more appropriate for your needs, particularly if you have a break-barrel air rifle with open or telescopic sights, or a .22 airgun or perhaps if you have a youngster you want to introduce to airgun shooting in a safe, interesting and managed environment, then SARPA will be able help you on the way better than any of these clubs can. Click here to go to SARPA's website, or you could also try the BFTA site. There is a club in Juniper Green in the south west area of Edinburgh. They meet regularly throughout the year, indoors in winter, outdoors in the summer. However, if target shooting at 10m indoors is your aim or aspiration with rifle or pistol, or you just want to try it out, do feel free to contact a club above (Balerno & Currie only at the moment). It should be noted that Scotland and indeed Great Britain is currently very short of air rifle and pistol shooters at all grades compared to other countries, and anyone wishing to progress in these Olympic and Commonwealth Games sports will be very welcome. |
